From Crete, with Love – The Skewers That Made It Home
Last September, we rounded up some of the Brother Marcus gang and headed to Heraklion, on Crete’s north coast.
We spent the week soaking up the late summer sun, playing card games, cracking a few beers* — and eating a lot of souvlaki.
One afternoon, we set off on a flavour trail through Heraklion, visiting six spots in just one hour. From grab-and-go counters to laid-back tavernas, each place had its own take on the perfect skewer: juicy pork, tender chicken, plenty of oregano and just the right hit of salt.
Later in the trip, we spent time in Elounda at Tas’ family home and restaurant — a place full of tradition, warmth and proper Greek hospitality.
That’s where the cooking began, and where we were reminded that the best food doesn’t need to be complicated — just made with good produce and care.
We came home inspired, and those skewers? They made their way onto the Canary Wharf menu not long after.
